Happy Wednesday Pilgrims!! Wedding Wednesday is on hold at the moment as I sort through finalizing plans and sorting through remaining decisions and my emotions. Nevertheless, I refuse to leave you post-less.

One thing I really like about living in the Atlanta area are the many hidden gems of the area and the stories behind them. Thus, starts an entirely new series spotlighting the gems I'm discovering in the area.

Today's spotlight falls on

HOTT Theater for Children.

Ms. Lauren Hunt.

I met Lauren in 2012 while I was teaching at a private school. She was my co-worker at the time, one I would describe as sweet, friendly, and even a little "over-the-top" when she wanted to be. The children loved her and it was evident that they particularly enjoyed the two shows they put on twice a year, which Lauren wrote and directed.

Along with being loved by the children, Lauren was also known for her diligent work ethic and her firm, uncompromising ways, especially when it came to rehearsals for shows and programs, and of course show time.

Each show I went to proved to be a success, with parents, school administrators and friends raving about the excellent job the students did!

Lauren's credentials include:

  • Acting in a number of stage plays and short films
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from Auburn University
  • Teaching for 5 years
  • And currently working on her M.Ed (Master of Education degree) in Elementary Education

HOTT Theatre for Children

HOTT (Hunt's Over-The-Top) Theatre for Children is a vision GOD placed in Lauren's heart a long time ago. As a passionate educator who had been impacted by Theatre herself, Lauren wanted to share the gift of theatre with as many children as possible. Her parents encouraged her to pursue her GOD given dream, telling her day after day that she should start her own independent program and allow the world to see the positive impact the Arts have on children.

Education in the Arts

Too often in our society today, education, particularly education in the Arts (visual arts, theatre, dance, music, etc.)  is the first on  the list when it comes to budget cuts. Yet study after study continue to show the importance of Arts education.

A 2002 study conducted by the Arts Education Partnership revealed that children "exposed to drama, music, and dance are often more proficient at reading, writing, and math."

More recent studies, including the 2011 "Reinvesting in Arts Education" study conducted by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, show that integrating the arts with other subjects can help raise student achievement levels.

The Arts played a very critical role in my development as a child and still continues to be dear to me today! I truly love what Lauren is doing for the children of the Metro-Atlanta area.

It's never too early to supplement growth and development. And it's never too late! Growth and development should be continuous from our first breath to our last.
