Basquiat Revealed

There's an oxymoron for you.

How do you reveal something that is renowned?

Well, the short answer is maintaining an element of surprise. At least that is what turned out to be true in this case.

Danny is the better of the two of us when it comes to surprises, but that doesn't stop me from trying to match his level of epicness. This past Friday I definitely succeeded. (:Honks own horn: Beep Beep Toot Toot)

I surprised him with a swanky date night affair downtown. He watched the car route and figured out we were going to the High Museum (to be expected). But he had No IDEA Basquiat works were there on exhibit. SCORE!

Danny is a Renaissance man who is interested in all aspects of culture and art so I was excited to surprise him with an evening at the HIGH viewing the works of one of our favorite Artists.

The view of downtown Atlanta from The Bridge at the HIGH.

The exhibit, Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks, features some of Jean-Michel Basquiat's major works along side eight of his rare composition notebooks. The notebooks are filled with poems, descriptive texts, doodles, and early versions of  images that recur throughout his work: crowns, street signs, and mask-like faces.

I stayed behind the camera most of the night and reveled in making Danny and the artwork my muse.

The night concluded with dinner and dancing and I got treated to Basquiat flip flops.

The Basquiat exhibit at the HIGH runs through May 29, 2016. If you're in Atlanta we definitely encourage you to see it, and take a peek into the BRILLIANT mind of one of the most original artists of his generation.
