Hip Hip Parfait! Low-Cal Sweet Treat A 1-2-3 Recipe

Danny and I both have a mean sweet tooth; though, it manifests in different ways.

Danny loves pastries - cookies, cakes, doughnuts, etc. I on the other hand, am of a much simpler persuasion - just give me the fastest way to get sugar in my system and nobody gets hurt lol. Candy, Milkshakes, Ice cream, now we're talking.

And yes, I'm lactose intolerant.

It's tempting to want to indulge during the summer, especially on cooler treats (cool as in temperature) like ice cream. However, Danny and I have happily been enjoying a cool, low calorie sweet treat the last few days that is easy on our pockets and delights our taste buds!

Parafaits!

"You know what else everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, 'Let's get some parfaits,' they say, 'Hell no, I don't like no parfait?' Parfaits are delicious....Parfaits gotta be the most delicious thing on the whole damn planet." - Donkey from the movie Shrek

[Hahahahaha! I'm easily amused. Shrek is definitely one of my animated favorites.]

I used to pay about $3 a pop for a yogurt parfait at the supermarket after a work out but there is a more affordable option. Also homemade yogurt parfaits seem a healthier alternative to single serve fruit-at-the-bottom yogurt cups, which can still be jam packed with sugar.

This Yogurt Parfait recipe is as easy as 1-2-3 and makes the perfect healthy snack any time of day. Now you can silence those late night sugar cravings with a low calorie sweet treat.

Ingredients

Greek Yogurt

Fresh Fruit - we used blueberries and strawberries

Findlay House Honey Drizzled Yogurt Parfait

Raw Old Fashioned Oats

Drizzle of Honey (optional)

Steps

1. In a glass cup add a few scoops of Greek yogurt.

2. Add the fresh fruit of your choice.

3. Top with the raw oats and drizzle with honey.

Personally, I LIVE for that little drizzle of honey!! It just completes the parfait eating experience for me!! I'm drooling just looking at the drizzle in this picture - oh yeah, give me that liquid gold.

Suggestions/Notes

  • You can use plain yogurt but we prefer Greek Yogurt because it has more healthy probiotics and a lot of protein.
  • If you like yogurt and/or parfaits. Buy the large tub of Greek yogurt, it ends up being more cost effective.
  • Everything in moderation. It is possible to go overboard. If you're concerned about portion size here is my suggested serving (with calories) - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (110), 1/4 cup blueberries (21), 1/4 cup strawberries (13), 1/4 cup raw oats (75), and a two second drizzle of honey (7). Total Estimated calories: 226
  • There are of course many variations to this recipe. You may opt to create a layered parfait. If you prefer Vanilla or Honey flavored to plain Greek yogurt you can use that instead. Or use granola rather than the raw oats.
  • Variations will of course effect the calorie count.

Or are you the only person in the world (according to Donkey) that doesn't really like parfaits? LOL

Either way we want to hear from you! Happy, Healthy, snacking!! :-)
